Fish Fry Workers!

trudofski February 15th, 2010

The first Fish Fry of the 2010 season is this Friday, February 19th!

As always, we are looking for kids 3rd grade and up to work – it is a lot of fun and a great service opportunity!  Ultimately, this is for the kids – and the kids are what makes this so special.

This is how it works:

     - 3rd and 4th graders – they help the adults set and re-set the tables and bus the dirty tables

     – 5th and 6th graders – they are our servers

     – 7th and 8th graders – they are our hosts and hostesses and beverage servers

     – High schoolers  – various kitchen and/or floor duties, carry out (we will sign off on service hours!)

     – Adults – we need help supervising the floor, working in the kitchen, cleaning up at the end

Once again, the sainted Dennis Goebel is in charge of the entire Fish Fry.  He can be found in the kitchen every Friday afternoon, evening and night.

This year, the primary floor supervisors will be Scott Ziegler, Randy Rice, and Tom Rudofski.  You can find at least one or two of them will be there every Friday night.  See one of the floor supervisors at the host stand to check your kids in.

Kids can work either shift, and if they are really good workers, possibly both – but most kids do run out of steam at some point.

First shift is from 3:30 to 6:30, Second Shift is from 5:30 to 8:30 (these are really just guidelines – we realize not everyone can come and go according to this schedule).  The Fish Fry runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

All kids must be willing to work, must be walked in by a parent to sign in, and will be given a worker meal.  We would be more than happy for them to sit with their family when they arrive to eat.  If they are just eating with the other kids, we just ask that they do so when it is slower (the busiest time is generally 5:30 to 7:00)

Parents of kids that are misbehaving or kids that are not signed in will be asked to pick up their children.

This year the kids will be wearing color coded (by job) aprons that must be turned in every night to be laundered for the next week.  They will get their share of the tips when they turn in the aprons.

Please understand that from time to time we may have experienced workers help up or down a level to get the job done.  We also select older kids to man the pop station.  All this is at the discretion of the adults in charge!

Any questions?  Call or email Tom Rudofski as follows: 248.756.6605, trudofski@comcast.net

2009 Fish Fry Sets new Attendance Records

dgoebel April 22nd, 2009

This year’s Friday lenten fish fry was another banner year and unqualified success.  Over the course of the seven week run, over 6,200 dinners were sold with an additional 800 worker and donated dinners served.  These numbers exceed any previous year record by 492 dinners.  We also set a new single night record of 1,015 sold dinners on the second Friday of lent.  A huge “THANK YOU” to all the guests, kid workers, high school help, and Dads and Moms who made this years fish fry such a huge success!

Kids Wanted to Work The Fish Fry!

trudofski February 22nd, 2009

All parish kids 3rd Grade and up are welcome to work the Lenten Fish Fry dinners!

- 3rd and 4th graders help with bussing and setting tables (Bussers)
- 5th and 6th graders help with serving dinners (Servers)
- 7th and 8th graders help with greeting and seating our guests (Hosts/Hostesses)
- High schoolers help out with the carry-out, in the kitchen, or wherever help is needed.

We will sign off on service hours for the high school kids that are required to obtain them.

To sign up, please send an email to:

fishfry@saintwilliam.net

and tell us you are interested in working. Each week we will send out an email to all that register asking if they would like to work. Just hit reply and let us know when and where.

Since the four hour dinner can seem long, we like to have the younger kids work in shifts, from either 4:00 – 6:30 or 5:30-8:00. Kids should arrive no earlier than 3:45 – only those kids whose parents are working can arrive before that time.

All kids must sign in with a supervising adult when they arrive, wear a nametag, and must give a contact number for a parent or responsible adult. Parents – please walk your kids in.

In an effort to save money we will not be giving out shirts to the workers – so wear something appropriate. Old fish fry shirts would work!

Working kids are entitled to a free worker meal – we only ask that they try to take their breaks before or after the peak times. They are always welcome to take their breaks when their family arrives to eat.

Parents – kids love having their parents work – please consider helping out – even if it is only for one or two nights, or only for a few hours. It is a great social event and more fun than work.

Fish Fry Adult Workers Needed!

trudofski February 22nd, 2009

The first lenten fish fry of 2009 is this Friday, February 27th!

As always, we anticipate a large number of guests each week.

All Dads’ Club members are especially encouraged to help out – this is our biggest fundraiser and is a lot of fun.

On Thursday evening, we will be meeting in the kitchen at about 7:00 p.m. to organize our inventory and do some advanced preparation.

On each and every Friday, we begin arriving before noon to get started (yes, noon). We crank up the fryers, final prep the kitchen, set-up the gym. An extra couple of bodies or more between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. will help get the dining room in order for the kids to set tables after school dismisses.

We need to have the kitchen manned, floor supervisors in place, coffee brewed, the carry-out station manned, and the cashiers table ready to go by 3:45 p.m. as the seniors begin arriving early for the 4:00 p.m. early bird special.

The heaviest traffic will come between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., so if you can’t get out of work early, just get out fast and lend a hand. By 6:30 or so the early crew has been working for 6 hours, so they are happy to get a break.

If you can’t get out fast, don’t sweat it. Take your time, bring your family for a late meal and plan to stay for clean-up. Between 8:30 and 10:30, we completely tear down the gym, Vercelli Hall, the main hallway and the kitchen. We vacuum every inch, set up chairs in Vercelli for weekend Mass, scrub the entire gym and kitchen, and put things back in order. If we have some fresh dads it all goes smoothly–If we don’t, the guys that arrived before noon are dragging along until midnight to get things cleaned up.

So, if you can help out, please let us know – simply email fishfry@saintwilliam.net and let us know when you would be available and where you would like to help out. By emailing you will help Dennis Goebel and Tom Rudofski know where we need extra help and where we can expect to be covered. If you do not get a chance to email but area available to help, just show up – we always can use an extra hand somewhere.

Athletic Tent Party Raffle Ticket Sales off to a good start

Tom Convery July 16th, 2008

We had our first “Raffle Return Night” on Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. next to the convent garage. 15 of our athletes are already at or beyond their sales quota. We are encouraging everyone to make their sales AND their returns as soon as possible. Joe Boulus and I will be available every Monday and Wednesday (at conditioning practices) from 7-8 p.m. to accept returns or distribute additional tickets. Once an athlete has sold their quota, they get an entry in our July 28, 2008 incentive prize drawing for an IPOD, movie tickets, and other great prizes. Increases your chances to win by making your return early and by selling extra tickets: For each $20 over quota sold, the athlete gets an additional entry in the prize drawing.

NOT AN ATHLETE? You can sell tickets and get in the prize drawing too!! Just contact Joe Boulus or Tom Convery and we will get tickets to you!

While our next major return night with a prize drawing is Monday, July 28, 2008, we will be accepting returns and serving soft serve ice cream and cold drinks on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 6:30 to 8:30 to anyone making early returns or looking to pick up more tickets to sell.

Check our progress toward our goal by watching the graph at the top of the right-hand column. We have a long ways to go, but we can get there before August 2 if everyone does their part!

Dads: Sign-On for Week 4 Fish Fry

Tom Convery February 10th, 2008

The first lenten fish fry went well on Friday, February 15 with well over 760 dinners sold. We were pretty-well manned at all positions. Now that Walled Lake School’s break week is over we hope to have all of our “regular” dads and kid workers back in town. We also anticipate larger numbers of guests. All Dads’ Club members are especially encouraged to help out this week–we will provide ‘on-the-job’ training.

  • On Thursday evening, we will be meeting in the kitchen at 7 p.m. to organize our inventory and do some advanced preparation.
  • On Friday, we begin arriving before noon to get started (yes, noon). We crank up the fryers, final prep the kitchen, set-up the gym. An extra couple of bodies or more between 1:30 and 2 p.m. will help get the dining room in order for the kids to lay out placemats and silverware as soon as school dismisses.
  • We need to have the kitchen manned, ‘floor dads’ in place, the carry-out station manned, and the cashiers table ready to go by 3:45 p.m. as the seniors begin arriving for the 4 p.m. early bird special at about 3:40 (reverse ‘mcdonald time’).
  • The heaviest traffic will come between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., so if you can’t get out of work early, just get out fast and lend a hand. By 6:30 or so the early crew has been working for 6 hours, so they are happy to get a break.
  • If you can’t get out fast, don’t sweat it.

SO…. Click on the comment link below and tell us all when you plan to arrive and how you’d like to help. i.e.:
“Joe Daddy- can’t make it till 7 or so–I’ll stay for clean-up” or
“Nacho Daddy- I’ll be there around 3 to help wherever needed”

by “commenting” you will help Dennis Goebel know where we need extra help and where we can expect to be covered.
