Arts, Beats & Eats is happening in Royal Oak this weekend. Parking at Shrine High School has been commissioned out for this event. In an effort to manage this situation, both St. William and Shrine families are being provided with two options for alternate parking:
1. Players can be dropped off at the circle drive in front of the school on 13 Mile Rd. Ample parking can then be found across the street at the Northwood Shopping Center (by the Kroger’s) at the southwest corner of 13 Mile Rd. and Woodward Ave. There is a pedestrian stoplight allowing visitors to cross 13 Mile Rd. directly onto the school grounds.
2. Players can be dropped off at the Yorba Linda Blvd. gate bordering the field to the north. Parking can then be found either on Yorba Linda Blvd., itself, or in the immediate vicinity within the residential neighborhood north of the field. Coaches gear would be best dropped off here, as Yorba Linda runs adjacent to the visitor side of the field.
Also, there is handicap and special need access available from Yorba Linda.

This week’s update:
Practice this week 6 – 8 through Friday. Because there is BINGO in Zepf Hall on Fridays throughout the season, please park in the Community Ed parking lot. Also, during other days please remain considerate of the day care facility when dropping off your son for practice.
Many players still need to turn in paperwork. Those who haven’t turned in all required paperwork (registration, contract, insurance info, physical) will not be able to participate in a game until they do so.
Spirit Wear is available. Samples will be at practice all week. Please turn in forms and money by Thursday as we are going to place the first order this week.
4-way Scrimmage on Saturday (8/21) at Catholic Central (Wixom Rd. & Grand River). Note – there is also a canned food drive. Bring canned food to support this worthy cause. Wear practice uniform and arrive 1 hour prior to start times listed:
Varsity: 9 am – 10:47
JV: 12:43 pm – 3:06
Freshman: 5:33 pm – 7:19
First Game – Sunday, August 29 at Walled Lake Central vs. St. Regis. Game times:
Freshman – Noon
Jr. Varsity – 1:30
Varsity – 3:30
Volunteers needed for this home game as follows:
Concessions: 3-4 people
Chain Gang: 3 people
Gate: 2 people
Announcer and spotter: 2 people
50/50: 1-2 people
Please respond to prahl.family@sbcglobal.net and jboulus1@comcast.net with your desired area for volunteering and if you have any questions related to volunteering. This program is supported by volunteers so your assistance is necessary.

Just a quick reminder about a few items:
- Full pads start Thursday. That means helmet, shoulder pads, practice jersey, white practice pants, including 2 thigh pads, 2 knee pads and a pad in the back. Please wear the white belt for practice. Full jerseys, black pants and green belts will be for games. If you don’t have all the right pads, please arrive at practice a little earlier to take care of that.
- When dropping off for practice, please be respectful of the daycare facility which doesn’t close until 6. Prior to that time, parents are picking up their children and need the closest parking spots for that.
- DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HOME EARLY FROM PRACTICE WITHOUT NOTIFYING A COACH. This is for the safety of all the boys.
- 10 am Saturday is the annual intra-squad scrimmage that takes place right at the practice field. Each team will be divided up to play against each other. Each level will play against the same level. A team and family picnic will take place at noon, right after the scrimmage. We didn’t have sign up sheets for this event, however, we are asking that people help out to get things set up and cleaned up. If everyone pitches in, it won’t be a burden on anyone.
- The Dad’s Club will be supplying the meat for the picnic. Bottled water has been donated. Should your family like sodas, or other beverages, you will need to bring those. Also, we ask you to bring the following:
- Varsity – Desserts
- JV and Freshmen – Appetizer and/or salad
- Spirit Wear order forms will be available later this week and on Saturday. T-shirts, sweats and hoodies will be available to purchase. See James Smith for details.
- A special thanks to Giuseppe’s Italian Deli & Bakery and all the parents who have helped make Camp Week Dinners tasty and organized.

We are looking for a few good athletes to help us continue and build upon our winning tradition. Come join your friends and fellow parishioners to learn skills, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit from our highly qualified and experienced coaching staff. We also have the support of the public and Catholic high schools whose coaches frequently attend and contribute to our clinics and practices.
St. William will have three (3) teams participating at three levels:
Freshman (Grades 3 and 4) with a weight limit of 120 pounds
Junior Varsity (Grades 5 and 6) with a weight limit of 130 pounds and
Varsity (Grades 7 and 8 ) with a weight limit of 165 pounds
We will have a FREE voluntary clinic in June at St. William.
The cost is $110.00 per player ($200.00 family limit for football) for St. William parishioners and $125.00 per player for non-parishioners.

The St William Dads’ Club is proud to sponsor and support the CYO Athletic Program at St William. ALL Parishioners of St William that have kids in grades 3rd through 8th are encouraged to take a look at what the CYO Athletic Program has to offer. Our Fall Volleyball program has grown to four teams for the girls in the 4th thru 8th grade. Each year they all play in tournaments and have a regular season schedule. The Freshman, JV, and Varsity Football teams are open to 3rd thru 8th graders. Last year the Varsity Football Team played in the City CYO Championship game at Ford Field. Our Intramural Basketball program is open to all 2nd thru 4th graders, this gives the young player a chance to develop their skills and learn the game of basketball in a relaxed come-when-you-can-program. The CYO Basketball program is for the boys and girls in 5th thru 8th grade. This past season, once again, the Varsity Boys qualified for the CYO play-offs and many of our team played in additional tournaments over the course of the season. Our CYO JV and Varsity Baseball teams are ready to kick off their 4th season. The cost for each participant is very reasonable considering the quality of play in each sport. Most sports are only $60 per player, which includes uniforms and equipment. Plus, the Dads’ Club provides scholarships for those in need- – we want each child to have an opportunity to play in a sport. Find out more about CYO Athletics on our website at www.saintwilliam.net or contacting the Athletic Director, Todd Diffenderfer at AD@saintwilliam.net or 248-881-3132.

The weather was perfect for football this sunshine-soaked Sunday afternoon. And our St. William Crusader Varsity football team matched the weather as they played nearly perfect football marching to a 24-0 victory over the defending City Champions and perennial powerhouse Warren St. Anne Eagles. The victory today at Catholic Central field secures the Crusaders appearance in the CYO City Championship game next Saturday, October 24 at Ford Field at 10:00 a.m.. The Crusaders were in command throughout the game on both sides of the football this afternoon holding the Eagles scoreless despite two St. Anne’s possessions which carried them inside the 10 yard line. St. William enjoyed contributions from literally every player on the squad making the victory and the trip to the City Championship game next weekend even more meaningful.
Get your Prep Bowl Tickets so you can attend and cheer on your Crusaders. Tickets will be available for only $6.00 ($8.00 at Ford Field) at practice this week or by contacting our football director, Mark Wolter.
Also participating at the Prep Bowl will be the St William Varsity #1 and the JV #2 Volleyball teams. Both teams will be honored in the Parade of Champions.
