St. William Crusader Football 2011

The CYO Champions would like to extend an invitation to the young men of St William’s Parish to join our “Football Family” for the 2011 season. St William was very fortunate to have a number of “Crusaders” in our program last year, all of whom played an integral part of our very successful 2010 campaign. Come and be a part of our continued tradition and success.

It is the goal of our staff at St William to grow our relationships with our neighboring Parishes and continue to promote participation in CYO athletics. Registration is open to all young men who will be in the 3rd through the 8th grade in the fall of 2011. Please visit our website at, where you can locate online registration forms, open registration will be February 16 & 17 from 5-8 pm in the activity center at St. William.  For more information contact Head Coach Jeff Rioux via email at or by phone at 248-705-2426, or Football Director Joe Boulus email phone 248-624-1006.

Though the Eagles of St. Anne put up a strong showing in the CYO showdown at the Prep Bowl, the relentless running game of the St. Williams Crusaders proved too much.

Don’t miss more coverage and photo galleries of Prep Bowl and other high school sporting events. Check back for more on and pick up our Prep Bowl edition of the newspaper on November 5.

St. William took a 24 to 8 lead into halftime, scoring their third touchdown on a long run with the clock winding down in the second half.

The game tightened in the third quarter when St. Anne and St. William traded touchdowns, with St. William missing an extra point conversion, making the score 30-16.

St. Anne was within two scores and had gotten the ball back when the fourth quarter began.

That possession, however, ended on an interception in St. Anne’s territory by St. Williams defensive back Jacob Prokes. A few plays later, St. William’s running back Bo Pickins broke a long run for a touchdown, making the score 38 to 16.

With just under three minutes left, the Eagles added a touchdown, but didn’t convert on the extra point.

From that point, the Crusaders once again employed their effective ground game, cementing the final score at 38-22.

Crusader Football Posts a Stunning Victory to Move to City-Wide Championship

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

For the second year in a row Coach Jeff Rioux’s Varsity Crusaders defeated the Eagles to advance to the City Championship game next Saturday, October 23 at Ford Field at 10:00 a.m..  Last year, St. William defeated the Eagles of warren St. Anne in their semi-final contest while this year west-side St. Edith Eagles got their wings clipped by the Crusaders.  The Crusaders were in command throughout the game on both sides of the football this afternoon holding the Eagles scoreless through most of the first half.   St. William enjoyed contributions from literally every player on the squad as everyone was on the gridiron to contribute to the victory and to make the trip to the City Championship game next weekend even more meaningful.

Get your Prep Bowl Tickets so you can attend and cheer on your Crusaders. Tickets will be available for only $6.00 ($8.00 at Ford Field)  at practice this week or by contacting our football director, Todd Diffenderfer or Tom Liike.

Camp Week Update

Thursday, August 12th, 2010
Just a quick reminder about a few items:
  • Full pads start Thursday.  That means helmet, shoulder pads, practice jersey, white practice pants, including 2 thigh pads, 2 knee pads and a pad in the back.  Please wear the white belt for practice.  Full jerseys, black pants and green belts will be for games.  If you don’t have all the right pads, please arrive at practice a little earlier to take care of that.
  • When dropping off for practice, please be respectful of the daycare facility which doesn’t close until 6.  Prior to that time, parents are picking up their children and need the closest parking spots for that.
  • 10 am Saturday is the annual intra-squad scrimmage that takes place right at the practice field.  Each team will be divided up to play against each other.  Each level will play against the same level.  A team and family picnic will take place at noon, right after the scrimmage.  We didn’t have sign up sheets for this event, however, we are asking that people help out to get things set up and cleaned up.  If everyone pitches in, it won’t be a burden on anyone.
  • The Dad’s Club will be supplying the meat for the picnic.  Bottled water has been donated.  Should your family like sodas, or other beverages, you will need to bring those.  Also, we ask you to bring the following:
  •         Varsity – Desserts
  •         JV and Freshmen – Appetizer and/or salad
  • Spirit Wear order forms will be available later this week and on Saturday.  T-shirts, sweats and hoodies will be available to purchase.  See James Smith for details.
  • A special thanks to Giuseppe’s Italian Deli & Bakery and all the parents who have helped make Camp Week Dinners tasty and organized.
